THE ADVENTURE IN CAMPING FOUNDATION

The owners of Adventure in Camping have always felt that camping is the best way for families to connect.  Everyone’s schedules are so hectic that family time is often ignored because of TV’s, cell phones, business, homework, etc.  But when a family goes camping, the entire time is family time!  Sitting around the campfire.  Cooking the meals.  Setting up camp.  Watching the stars.  Just being with each other.

And the person that gets the most out of family time is the child who is different.  Because everyone in the family understands that person, but is too preoccupied to spend that quality time with them, they will reconnect with that special person when on a camping trip.

During the camping trip, that special person is just another member of the family and will get more out of camping than anyone else.

So here’s how Adventure in Camping can help.

During the Spring and the Fall, Adventure in Camping has many trailers that sit unoccupied.  We still have drivers and housekeepers, but generally business is slower during the shoulder seasons.

We offer a few of these trailers to families with a developmentally disabled or physically handicapped child during these shoulder seasons, free of charge.  We will park the trailers for the family in the campgrounds closest to our storage facility; Convict lake, Shady Rest, French Camp at no additional charge.  The family must still pay for and obtain the campsite, as our permit with the Forest Service does not allow us to handle this part of the rental.

All that we ask is that the family brings the handicapped child with them and enjoy the time they have together.

Remember, camping is not for everyone.  Some people are not comfortable outside of their normal surroundings.  We understand that.  If the trip is planned for a specific time and that special person doesn’t like it, give us a call.  We understand and will pick up the trailer.

Some people think that this is an unusual offer, especially given the complicated world we live in.  A person that has experienced this special time is Father Joe Greeley, who has generously agreed to speak on our behalf to insure families that we are sincere about this offer.  If you have questions, feel free to give him a call or email him at 562-634-6111 or email him at stpanpastor@sbcglobal.net.  His office hours are M-T:8-8, F:8-6, & Sat & Sun:9-7.  If you email him, please reference Adventure in Camping in the subject line.

Or give our office a call and let us help you plan your next family outing.

We hope to see you in Mammoth.

Hey Phil,

Nice to meet you “virtually”. We’ve been enjoying your service for many years now, and plan to do so for many more…. This has become a family tradition….a chance for me to meet up with my brother, my son, and some good friends to enjoy the Sierras in the way God intended.

I would be honored to have you put any pics you want on your website. We ARE the essence of family camping….. That’s what it’s all about. This trip we just finished up was awesome! We not only lucked out on the weather and caught a bunch of trout, but there were moments throughout the trip where I was blown away by the love shown by my son and my brother….. Since we moved away from tent camping a few years ago….. (hey, I need my creature comforts!), your service has made it easy for us to show up, move food and “stuff” to the trailer, and start enjoying the weekend right away….. no matter what the weather!

Thank you, and thank Betsy and your entire crew for making our trips to the Sierras wonderful and easy. I hope to meet you someday….you’re welcome to join us for a dinner or a cocktail over a warm campfire someday when we’re up there.

I’ll be sure to join your blog (thanks for letting me know about it), but please feel free to use any of my pics for your website. Let me know when you have them posted, and I’ll send the link to many friends.

Best regards,

Cris Hagen

Rock Creek Lake area Campground openings

Just received an email from the management of the Rock Creek Area campgrounds, who stated that Iris Meadow, Big Meadow will open any day, but the campgrounds above these will open somewhere around June 10, unless the snow melts sooner, at which time they will reconsider.

Convict Lake Campground Opens

Convict lake Campground is opening Friday, April 23, at 9am, according to the campground host.  Originally, the host had posted a sign at the entrance that stated the opening on may5th, due to high snow levels.

Crowley Lake 1/2 Open

just drove by the lake and it’s at least half open.  Large chunk of  ice in the middle between hilton bay, mcgee bay and aligator point, otherwise, all else is open.

RV Battery Use

No voltage from your batteries?  Check the negative wire leading to the batteries, sometimes connected to the frame of the trailer.  Where the wire connects to the frame, quite often corrosion will stop the connection.

Also check the circuit breaker located behind the battery storage location.  To do this, remove the 6″ x 6″ plastic cover, then check the continuity through the push-button circuit breaker.  These will go bad for no apparent reason.

I choose to by-pass this breaker if it goes bad.

Crowley Lake ice starting to break up

The ice on Crowley Lake is breaking up. As of yesterday, the lake from North Landing to the river is completely clear of ice. There is a large open water area around McGee Bay and another near Hilton Bay. A large swath across the lake is open, from just north of Hilton Bay across the lake to the area south of Aligator Point, as if a large ice-breaker had steamed across the lake. One good wind will surely break up the rest of the ice. And it looks like another storm is headed our way on Sunday and Monday which will probably do the trick.
